Walcott (Joseph L.) is born in Barbados, West Indies.

Joseph Walcott joins his two brothers in Boston in approximately 1910 and becomes the first African-American businessman to own a nightclub and obtain a liquor license in Boston, when opens Wally’s CafĂ© in 1947.* He remains involved in operating the club until he dies at age 101 on March 23, 1988, and subsequently receives a New Orleans-style walking funeral through the streets of the South End.
